View Full Version : XP Pro Activation?????????

Why Microsoft cannot provide the option to simply "un-
register" and the "re-register" following a system
crash/re-install (on a clean hard-drive), is beyond me.
It's just anti-piracy emasculation at the inconvenience
of the user. The activation telephone number may be free,
but it's no good when you're a busy professional (away
most of the week) and you only have weekends at home by
your PC (mostly when you do not have the opportunity to
speak to an operator while at your PC, as the centre's
closed).

Furthermore, NEVER buy Norton's Anti-Virus on-line. I
found to my cost that it imposes a restriction on the
number of times you can download it on-line, and when you
do (every time) it's well over 70Mb! Furthermore you
don't actually get a re-installable copy that you can
simply re-run (you get some rubbish called "VBOX").
Consequently, due to Norton's (Symantec's) anti-piracy
manouevres, I am forced to currently run with no
protection - despite having bought their software and
therefore the right to it!!!!!!

NOT happy at-all.

Brendan.

Greetings --

Sounds to me more like a steeper than expected learning curve. A
"busy professional" what? Whiner?

Re-activating WinXP after reinstallation takes only a few seconds
via the Internet, and less than 5 minutes via telephone, should a call
be necessary.

As for Symantec's on-line delivery method - _you_ chose it. Of
course the number of times you can download it is limited; how many
copies did you pay for? Had you so elected, Symantec would have
gladly sent you a CD. All you need do with the V-Box files are burn
them to CD for future use.
