how do i increase the amount of view settings xp should remember?

REG file will modify the setting that controls this to 8000. See the =
instructions at the top of the page for information on using REG files. =
If you want to change the number to something smaller or larger, right =
click the REG file you downloaded and select Edit. Change both of the =
values for BagMRU Size. This is a hexadecimal number. You can do =
decimal to hex conversion using Calculator in Scientific View.

How much folders does it remember currently, in your system and how did =
you ascertain the value [if you did]?

Windows [XP] remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached =
some settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by =
