The sound icon will not remain on the taskbar
after shutdown and restart. It shows a check
in Control Panel sound and audio devices. If I uncheck
and recheck it will appear on the taskbar but disappear
on restart. Strange. Appreciate help.

This is a known problem with Windows XP. If you don't need UPnP services try
disabling the service and you should not have the problem.

Searched and found 2 excess Upnp folders.
Also closed pnp in the cmos.
