56K modem is so slow!

Help, why is my modem on the internet soo sloow? I have an identical set up
with win98se and it's so much faster! I am sorry I can not be too specific
because I just don't know what is wrong and what should be right.

If using XP look for better drivers than the inbuilt XP ones.

Get cable!

Yes, modems can be unpredictable. There are settings like MTU, RWIN, that
can be adjusted. Drivers can be swapped out. Lines can be poor quality
from time to time. The only sure cure for 56k modems is cable!

Worth a try. I had a similar problem with a printer.
Uninstall the modem, leave it turned OFF, run the install CD and when it
looks for drivers, THEN turn it on and select the ones from your modem CD -
or if there are later drivers on the modem site, use those.
That way XP won't automatically find the modem & install the XP drivers.
