I am unable to access my DSL (RoadRunner). I called
RoadRunner tech support and after many tests/questions was
told I had a "browser problem" and should reinstall
Internet Explorer. I downloaded the file "ie6setup.exe"
from www.microsoft.com on the notebook computer I am now
using. I transferred the file to the desktop computer
(running Windows XP Professional)and tried to install it.
I get an error message:

"Setup was unable to download information about available
installation sites. Setup may have been unable to use your
current proxy server settings. Click Advanced if you know
your proxy settings. I don't know them...how do I find out?

Other error messages I am getting on bootup:

"Windows sockets initialization failed" and
"TCP/IP is not installed".

Can anyone help me or offer suggestions where I might
obtain help? I cannot go back to the place where the
computer was bought last month)as it is 100+ miles away
and I con't have a car! The computer was working fine last
week (I tried "Restore" with no success) until I
installed "StopZilla" (which came highly recommended) and
subsequently uninstalled it.

I am now unable to install Internet Explorer because I
don't have access to the Internet and can't get access to
the Internet until I install Internet Explorer?!

Hi,

To reinstall Internet Explorer, you need not download it. Go to the Control
Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden files and folders" and
uncheck "Hide protected operating system files [recommended]". Also uncheck
"Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the ie.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).
