Using the OEM install (Compaq Presario) of WinXP on my
wifes new laptop, I installed the HP DeskJet 5550 print
drivers from HP's website.
During the install, I setup the printer which is connected
to a Hawking Technologies dedicated USB print server device
on our LAN. This device is known to work well with other
systems in the hose usig non-Mirosoft operating systems and
using the HP JetDirect method, IPP, and SMB-based printing.
The printer and driver install fine and basic printing
seems to work just fine. However, the printer name,
location, an description are not editable. Any attempt to
modify any property for the printer (particularly the
spooling policy) generates the error above when you click
on "OK" or "apply".
