When I boot XP, I get an error message stating that the
file MDATA.DAT cannot be found. I would appreciate any
help anyone can provide.
Thanks.

Click Start, Run and enter MSCONFIG Go to the Startup tab, and uncheck =
items, one at a time and reboot, until you find the program that's =
trying to load this file. This is not a Windows file. It is likely =
some type of data file for a specific program that is loading at =
Startup.
