I did, the first time in OE, then I did it in IE, got as far as
tools-options-security and couldnt see where to add OE - thats why I tried
IE - and ran into strife there also. I selected Internet zone, but it
doesnt suggest or tell me how to add OE

In OE, Tools | Options | Security, select the first radio button (Internet
zone).

Thanks for your help Frank but I'm thoroughly confused now.
Judy
You had asked me if I did this in OE -
In other words, when I went into tools-options-security (in OE) I checked
the internet instead of restricted box - but could not see where to "add"
Outlook Express as suggested.

Judy, it's the very first option in the Security> Virus Protection section.
Move the dot from Restricted to Internet zone. You have already done this.
As long as ActiveX is allowed in your Internet zone in IE, it will work in
OE too.
In previous versions of OE this setting was presented similar to IE's
security zone section. It has been reduced to a single radio dot in the XP
version.
To check your internet zone settings, open Internet Explorer and go into
Tools> Internet Options> Security. Click the Custom Level box to go through
the settings one by one. Strongly suggest setting ActiveX controls no lower
than prompt. If you set to Allow, you may hit a page or an email with
malicious content and would not have an override to abort the content from
being processed.

Thanks Sharon, I didnt even have to read all your email to realise what you
meant.
This is what threw me "You can go to Tools | Options | Security and put OE
in the Internet zone. "
Anyway its all sorted out now - so again thanks to Sharon and Frank.
