I have three computers at my house, is it possible to
install xp on all three or do I have to buy a copy for
each computer. I don't mind having to pay extra for using
it on three computers but having to buy three copies is
crazy. Please reply THX

All licensing information for Windows XP is outlined in the
End User License Agreement. To read it, go to Start > Run
and type in WINVER , and hit enter.
As you will see, you can install Windows XP on only one (1)
computer. If you wish to install XP on another computer,
then you will need to purchase another copy. Otherwise,
installing XP on another computer will result in a failed
activation.
Additional Licenses for Windows XP Home Edition
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/addlic.asp
Additional licenses for Windows XP Professional
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/addlic.asp
Note: A preinstalled, OEM version of Windows XP is not eligible
for a second license. You will need to purchase a retail version
of Windows XP for installation on a second computer.

Why is it crazy? Would you expect one tax disc to cover three cars? Or one
train ticket for three people? What about buying three dinners at a
restaurant - would you only expect to be billed for one?

You have to buy three copies (or one copy and two extra licenses,
but that might cost even more).
The rule is one copy (or one license) for each computer. There's
nothing new here--this is exactly as it's been with *every*
previous version of Windows. The only thing new is that there's
now an enforcement mechanism.
If you think the rule is crazy, note that there's no requirement
for you to use Windows. Choose some other operating system that
has rules you prefer.

What you can do is search some places on the internet and get just a couple
of oem versions of it - they cost much less and since you already purchased
the book you don't need more books...you can search Ebay.com or
tigerdirect.com or tomshardware.com these are some of the places that sell
oem versions of xp home edition but there are many more..just type into
google "xp home edition oem only" these do come with correct activation
keys and are legal...but what they said about failure is correct...plus if
you have a problem you will not have an out...hope this helps

Yes you can. When it comes to activating XP, it will ask you to call an
"800" number (which is Microsoft) and they will give you an CD KEY number to
enter....if you can..the same time they are asking you to type it in, read
them out loud and have another person write them down. That will be the KEY
for that computer, so if you ever have to reload the computer you will have
it. You are allowed up to 5 computers total. The first (original) computer
will always us the original KEY

This is completely false. You may have gotten away with doing
this, but you are *not* "allowed up to 5 computers total." You
are allowed one computer, period.

Had you read the OP's post you would have realized that he
said that he doesn't mind *paying* to use the software on
three computers, but doesn't want to have to buy three
physical copies of it. BTW, what the hell is a "tax disc"?

Tax disc - a circular 'receipt' for displaying on the windscreen of a
vehicle to show you've paid road tax in the UK (but possibly in former UK
territories too). Must be renewed annually and the penalties for driving
without are severe.

Still having trouble with English I see. Maybe if you do a little
research you can find where MS says he can do this. But I doubt you
are capable.

I have been married to the same woman for 25 years.
She just had a hysterectomy, which means instant menopause.
"Crazed bitchy insults" have become a way of life for me.
