I just upgraded from Windows Millenium Edition to Windows
XP Home Edition. When installing Windows XP I did a quick
upgrade because I wanted to save my files and settings.
After upgrading I discovered that some of my files were
saved(mainly word documents and databases) however files
that I had saved in folders in Outlook Express were not
there. My addresses in Outlook Express were also gone.
Were these files backed up somewhere during installation?
If so where can I find them, I need them back. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Answer to Question 1:

What version of Roxio?? You may need to un-install amnd re-install Roxio.

Answer to Question 2:

XP is a multi-user system and those directories are needed. Software which
is XP aware will be searching for those directories.

1 - start, run, msconfig, startup tab. Uncheck roxio to stop it from
starting. Make sure you have version 5 with all patches or version 6.
2 - all those folders are needed. If you leave xp in the default setting of
hidden files and folders you will not see those system folders.

Start - Run - MSConfig
Look on the Startup page; also in the Services, checking the 'Hide
Microsoft' box.

You should see the lines relating to Easy CD Creator - or Direct CD - or
EngUtil (in Common files\Roxio Shared). Uncheck them.

What version of the software do you have? If earlier than 5 you will
need to uninstall it, clean up and reinstall an XP Compatible version
(or other package)

XP is built on the presumption that it may be shared between several
users, each with his/her own logon and files. So each has a personal
StartMenu and Favorites for example. All Users is for things common to
everyone; default is used to hold a template of basic personal settings
to be used as a start point when a new account is created. They don't
take all that much space - ignore them
