View Full Version : NetMeeting In Windows XP

February 17th 04, 04:41 AM
I need someone to tell me how to get NetMeeting to work
in Windows XP. I have uninstalled reinstalled, edited
the register, changed values, added keys,
restored, visited at least 100 sites that all tell me it
is there and it works. I do not know how this can be. I
open up NetMeeting in windows xp and I try to make a call
and a message in the directory send me to MSN Messenger.
When I open up NetMeeting and go into tools video, all my
video settings are grayed out. When I check for settings
video and audio are marked with the message "Audio
Hardware not detected" "Video Hardware Not Detected"
I have tested my audio and video, and both are in working
order. Device manager also reports that Audo and Video
are working properly.

Is there anyone in the world who can help me to get
NetMeeting to run on windows xp. I sure hope so. I have
been trying for over a week now.

thanks Allen

Look in C:\Program Files\Netmeeting. The conf.exe file should be there
- run it. It ought to run if you enter Conf.exe at Start - Run, or you
can make a desktop shortcut to the file

Yes Kelly, read the FAQ link, and there is nothing there=20
that helps with the NetMeeting problem. I am now=20
convinced that NetMeeting CANNOT work with windows xp. =20
If it can there should be a place somewhere inthe=20
microsoft kingdom that tells you how to do it. Every=20
single contact I made in this effort tells me how to=20
START NetMeeting, but not a single individual can tell me=20
how to make a call, or a contact with another person on=20
NetMeting ins any windows version. The activating and=20
opening of NetMeeting is as simple as it ever was. That=20
is not my problem. Once it is open, HOW DO YOU PLACE A=20
CALL AND OR HOW DO YOU CONTACT ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS ALSO=20
ON NET MEETING?

In order to try and make progress in this project, I=20
installed a fresh copy of Windows XP on another=20
computer. I activated and opend up NetMeeting, and when=20
I try to make contact with ANYONE ANYWHERE, I get a=20
message to go to MSN Messenger. If YOU can use=20
NetMeeting, Tell me how you do it.

Thank you for your response.

Thank you Alex, for your response.
I do not have a problem activating and opening
NetMeeting. That has not changed since windows 98, and I
can open it up. What I am asking help with is how to
make a call and or contact with another person using
NetMeeting in any windows version. I have gotten
responses from at least 50 people in this matter, and
they all tell me how to open NetMeeting, but not a single
individual has been able to offer help in getting
NetMeeting to connect with another person on the internet.
Do you use NetMeeting, and are you able to audio and
video conference with other people on line. If so,
Please tell me how you do it. When I try to make a call,
the directory opens up, and I am given a message to go to
msn messenger. I do not want to video conference in MSN
Messenger I want to video conference in Net Meeting.

Thank you for your response.

Allen,

NetMeeting works just fine in XP. In fact, prior to some improvements =
in Windows Messenger, I used it exclusively to talk with another MVP.

Here's the information you need to be aware of:

The problem is that the Microsoft owned and run Internet Directory =
servers for NetMeeting are no longer supported. They have been phased =
out, in favor of Windows Messenger. You will need to either use a =
different ILS server (addresses for these can be found by searching for =
"Netmeeting ILS server", without the quotes, at www.google.com) and type =
the server address into the directory window's server name/address bar =
manually, or you can place a NetMeeting call directly by clicking the =
call BUTTON and entering the other person's IP address or host name.

Note: If you choose to use a different ILS server, the other person =
you're trying to call should be using the same server as well. Most =
ILS servers do not share their lists of users between each other, in my =
experience. However, if the party you wish to voice and video with is =
using Windows XP, you will find Windows Messenger is superior in =
performance, with all the same features as NetMeeting.

In fact, some of the core components of NetMeeting (Desktop Sharing and =
the like) are what is used by Windows Messenger.

Windows Messenger is also much easier to configure to work through a =
firewall, especially a UPnP enabled firewall. NetMeeting does not =
support UPnP firewalls, so you have to configure the firewall manually.
