I am having problem with some defragmented (red) files being left on my computer after defragging. I have tried things like uninstalling and reinstalling, system mechanic, system registry, scan disk, diskcheck, and I can't seem to get completely rid of th
e fragmented files showing up on the defrag. Does anyone have a suggestion? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

If defragmenting with the XP system tool, there will always be some files
that are fragmented. Files in use cannot be moved. Since the utility runs
from within Windows that means there are always some files in use. A few
fragmented files do not pose a great problem.

Do you mean that there are *fragmented* files after
defragging? If so, what specific problem is this causing,
other than some obsessive/compulsive personal difficulty?

Perfectly normal. You will never defrag 100%.

If the files are in use, you cannot move aggregate them elsewhere. Simple as
that. 95 was fine, as safe mode would avoid the problem, however both 2000
and XP exhibit this. In all cases, they will be system or "systemy" files -
indexes into internet cache, etc., etc. It really is not anything to get
worride about.
