Adding new Admin User does not remove the old one

I bought a new computer built by a store and they
installed Windows XP Professional with a user called
GENERAL with ADMIN privilege but NO password. I
ran "USER ACCOUNT" and changed the user "GENERAL"
to "KARIOS" and added a password. After I restarted the
computer and log in as KARIOS, I was surprised that
user GENERAL is still there (C:\Documents and
Settings\General and all the default sub directories).
If I delete this C:\Documents and Settings\General
directory, will it affect the software settings of this
computer? (I am just not sure if some of the device
drivers or other programs such as the Registry will be
affected if I remove this directory).

Don't delete the folders - they're currently the active folders for Karios.
When you rename an account - the name changes in the interface only. The
name of the underlying folders remains the same.

If you want your folder names to match your user name, rename General.
Create a new account and name it Karios. Log on to the account.

If you also want to transfer data and settings from General to Karios, open
Help and Support and look up "copy profile." May want to read this before
creating the new account. There are extra steps involved because you can't
be logged on to the old account or the new account during the copying of the
profile. It's easier than it sounds. Help and Support outlines the procedure
very well.

Changing the name of a profile does not change the name of the user files
for that profile. The files with the name GENERAL are the files being used
by the KARIOS profile. You need to change the name back to GENERAL and then
read the instructions in the following article. You will be able to recreate
the KARIOS profile and then copy the GENERAL profile user files to this new
profile. After this is done, you can then delete the old GENERAL user files.
