I've already posted several times that all I get is THIS (see below) at the
above website. Why are you sending me to the page that doesn't work? :-)
They do not reply to any feedback, not even an acknowledgement that they
received your email. This page just sends you on a merry chase with no
answers to the problem.

Windows Update Error
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. The Windows Update servers are temporarily unavailable. Please try
again later.
If you continue to see this error, send us your feedback.
You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows
Update.
-----end copy&paste
I already posted the above error as it's the first page I get. It's doesn't
work.... it sends me around and around... do you know of a page that DOES
work?

Not in this thread you didn't.
that all I get is THIS (see below) at the
> above website. Why are you sending me to the page that doesn't work?
:-)
Because the person trying to be helpful didn't know you'd tried that site.
And for what it's worth, no one has any way of knowing that you're having
problems with that site, as it seems to be working just fine. So no one's
sending you to a site that doesn't work...and getting snippy with someone
who is trying to help is a pretty sure way to make sure they don't respond
to you again. Calm down a bit.
The problem appears to be on your computer. Might be a firewall or
permissions issue, might be a problem with your ISP. It's not the web page.
That's coming up just fine. Or at least it is now.

** Did you see my :-) ? I didn't think MS would have a non-working page
for 2 months, but then who knows? I know they want to get rid of W98 and
move on. I'm simply worn out and stressed out with all the problems and
aggravation with W-XP and now this problem with the MS update site not
working with my W98SE anymore. I'm so tired of trying fixes and workarounds
that aren't working! I never had a problem getting the updates before.
This is new. I've spent several hours trying everything everyone suggested
and still nothing.

** It comes up fine but can't scan and tell me what updates I need. I get
the error. I shut off the Firewall and Norton both and it still don't work.
My ISP wouldn't have a problem for 2 months - people's complaints would have
had him fix anything like that. He's very responsive to problems we have.
I don't need permission on W98SE. That update site always worked before.
Even sending for the (*&^%$# CD was a hassle as the MS website kept telling
me I don't have a "valid" address... never mind I've lived here 15 years
and know my address. :o) It took 4 TRIES! I'm off to bed before I
implode.......

Where in your original post did you say that you were
trying to update 98? Do you think that might be useful
information to someone trying to help you? Do you think
it might be better to post in the appropriate group?
When you go through life with everything always fouling up
and the same problems don't seem to be happening to other
people, did you ever consider that the problem might be
YOU?

Free Spirit,
Did you try the link I supplied you in a previous post ?
At the time, I did not understand you to say that you were trying to update
a Windows 98 machine. That may have nothing to do with the problem, but
maybe it does. That link works for me , so----
the problem seems to be within your machine, possibly in the settings etc.
Anyway, since it is a W98 why not try on that site ?
Wish I could be of more help.

After reading "MANY" threads initiated by the OP, I have come to the
conclusion, there is a severe malfunction in the keyboard/chair interface.
On-hand assistance by a competent PC user is recommended to correct this
problem.

WRITTEN.

Possibly because you're getting WIndows XP solutions to a Windows 98
problem.

It might not be the ISP with regards to everyone who uses it, but ISP
problems with regards to the way it's set up on your computer.

Hello,
(Ok, both sides please take deep breaths... in, out...<grin>)
This may not be of any help, but have you by any chance scanned for
viruses and ad/spyware? (I recommend AVG AntiVirus (www.grisoft.com)
and either AdAware or Spybot (www.lavasoft.de or ?) AVG is set to run
every night and update auto every 2 days, and I run AdAware at least
once a week).
For some reason this sounds like a similar problem a few months ago
with a virus (Blaster I think... which is starting to make the rounds
again). It kept people from being able to access the Windows Update
site.
