So far I have rebooted multiple times, used system
restore, let windows update completely and totally update
my system, ran 2 versions of fully updated virus scan,
removed any programs I assumed would perhaps cause a
confliction error, and I still have had no luck.

What is happening, is whenever I am in the newest IE, go
to any website, and click on a weblink to a file to
download, when the file progress screen comes up, it
freezes. Windows itself does not freeze, only that window,
which causes me to ctrl/alt/del it and then my computer
runs very slowly and forces me to reboot. This renders me
unable to download anything off any website at all.

I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem or
how to fix it? I would rather not reinstall, I have a lot
of programs, and data on this computer I do not have the
ability to backup.

Thanks in advance, and hopefully I posted this in the
correct space.

Hi Tom,

Try reinstalling IE. Copy/paste this command into a start/run prompt and
click ok:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf
