Help with Printer/Scanner

I recently installed a lexmark x73 all-in-one. Everything
works fine except in the lower right, where the clock and
all that is, there is an icon that says i can safely
remove my hardware, which is referring to the scanner.
Again everything works fine, i was just wondering why that
was there. Thanks

Because its a USB device that is running a Service. The Service should be
stopped before removing the device. Same situation as most PCMCIA cards in
notebook PCs, digital camcorders, digital cameras etc etc.
