View Full Version : format and XP reinstall (2nd partition) didn't erase old files?

I was having way too many problems, so I booted to my c: (Win98) used a DOS
prompt, and reformatted D: and reinstalled XP Pro.

I'm re-installing my other software now, and ran out of room. Although it
doesn't show up as options, my old userID and software seem to still be
taking up drive space (even after a dos prompt format!) and I don't know how
to get WinXPPro to automatically recognize which stuff is from the old
install and wipe it all so I can have the space back.

Help files and a web search have not been fruitful.

Any assistance greatly appreciated-

Hi,

Can you actually see the files or not? If you can't see them, then the disk
space is available. If you can see them, then the drive was not formatted,
or at least not formatted properly. Using the Win9x commands is not always
the best idea, I would recommend that you retry using the format command
from the WinXP CD.
