computer showing no progreams installed

please help asap i just installed windowsxp home edition
as an upgrade to 98plus, now when i turn my computer on i
get this screen stating there are no programs installed
on the computer and to hit f1 to configure but when i do
nothing happens. but if i turn on the computer with the
disk installed in the cd drive everything starts up like
normal? is this normal or did i miss something during
installation

Have you got it booting from the hard drive or the cd drive?
