OK... problem NOT sorted - quite!

Now that I have de-actived my .Net passport I have to
manually type in my email address and password to log on
to Messenger. The only way around this is to re-activate
my .net passport so logging on to messenger is one
click....

.... but then I get the original problem; when i connect to
the internet the old Messenger signs me in automatically -
AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE OLD WINDOWS MESSENGER
INSTALLED!!!

HELP ME PLEASE... this is SO frustrating!!!!!!

Thank you

Gary

I have been round and round with Windows/MSN/Windows/MSN Messengers.

Just ignore this if it doesn't apply to you, but here it is:
You say you "deactivated" Windows messenger. But if you did it by
going into Windows Messenger's settings and told it not start when you
start Windows up, and told it not to run in the background, you
haven't de-activated it. It is still there. It still logs you on
when you start up Explorer. "Friends" running either MSN Messenger or
Windows Messenger can still see you and send you Messages if you are
online. (frustrating if you don't want to contacted at certain
times).

To de-activate it (stop it from loading when you start Explorer), go
to:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_hide_messenger.htm

Note: This guy also has a different page that tells you how to remove
it, but from what I have read, completely removing it may not be a
good idea. The above link has something that stops it from loading
when you start Explorer. It will still work if you click on it.

There is no need to do this from what i gather. I was having the same problems, but all you need to to is open windows messenger, then got to tools, options, accounts and change the sign in first button at the to from .net passport to comms service, close
it, signin to msn messnger and that should be it! I hope this helps, it was ages ago when i fixed this and from what i remember this is all you have to do!!
