View Full Version : Installing Netscape 6.2

New user of XP on laptop. Want to install Netscape 6.2, which is a program
already on the computer. When I click on it, I get an Alert, reading
"activation.netscape.com could not be found.." Is this because I'm already
using IE as my browser and Microsoft is keeping Netscape from being used? If
so, how can I install NS6.2?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

perhaps a post in secnews.netscape.com news server would be more
appropriate?

That was the first thing I tried, Gordon, but when I tried to install the
server for the appropriate newsgroup, it didn't take and kept asking for my
user name and password, no matter how many times I entered them. This may
be due to my not being too familar at present with XP and Outlook Express.
However, I did manage to access this secure server and NS6 newsgroup on
another computer (*after* I had already posted the query here), and will
check to see if there are any responses there. Sorry if this caused you any
upset.

No upset - OE doesn't *normally* ask for a username and password on
secnews.netscape.com - how did you set it up?

Typed following url in IE:

snews://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.netscape6.windows

This worked on my other computer (WIN95, Netscape 4.7), but not on OE.
Messed up my earthlink server. Took a while and much experimenting until I
got things back to normal. Still getting familiarized with XP and OE.
