View Full Version : Start Menu - Programs

Having recently installed XP Pro, Office Pro and other
software I find that none of the Office programs are
listed on the all programs menu off of the start menu and
I cannot copy a shortcut into the start up folder to run
MS Office toolbar on boot up. I also do not have the usual
system tools folder off of Accesories.

If I use Windows Explorer to look at the default user and
myself the file structure off the start menu folder is
fully populated but (I think) the Guest user has the
reduced program tree. Trying to copy from one to the other
fails to work.

My guess is that some pointer is misdirected but any help
would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Start menu shortcuts should be a basic part of any install method you
choose. IIRC, the Office shortcut bar is an optional component in some
versions of Office. Suggest that you run a repair install of Office. Insert
the CD and it will find the old installation. Setup will then offer a list
of choices. Select Repair or Repeat. If the Office Shortcut bar is still
missing after this, run setup again and choose the option to add/remove
Office components. Search through the available components and elect to
install the shortcut bar.

If you continue to have trouble with this, you may want to post your
question in one of the Office newsgroups located on this same server.

Sharon,

Thanks for your thoughts. It is not a problem that solely
relates to MS Office. The System Tools sub folder is also
missing.

Chris

Chris,
You may want to run chkdsk on the hard drive. May also want to have your RAM
checked. There are software programs you can download and run for this. They
aren't as accurate as having the RAM physically checked by a technician but
come pretty darn close.

When things are mysteriously missing this early in the game (a brand new
install), that's usually indicative of a hardware problem. Possibly a virus
depending on the install media used.
