I want to thank Cari (MS - MVP) for the help narrowing down my problem. My problem is getting this message when trying to install HP deskjet 895cxi and HP laserjet 3100 driver software. "An installation file required by NTVDM is missing, execution must
terminate.
E:\WINDOWS\System32\ntio.sys" I did in fact look in this root folder and found that ntio.sys is not present. I also followed this link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314106
I searched my xp installation disk and found a file named NTIO.sy_. I don't know if its the same file. My question is how do I get this missing file? I've already reinstalled windows xp and the file is still missing.

Thanks for any help.

NTIO.sy_ is a compressed file and will need to be decompressed. Double
click it and you'll get a prompt for the file to use to open it. Click on
BROWSE. and select Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor, which is in the system
folder. This utility should expand the file into NTIO.sys.
