I had some problems with my laptop freezing after I loaded
some anti-virus software, so went into safe mode to remove
some programmes - but now my screen display is v.large and
resolution low, as it should be in safe mode - but it
isn't in safe mode any more, and I can't get the screen to
revert to normal display ... any thoughts? I've tried
altering the resolution on control panel/display, but I
can't move it ....

Any help much appreciated

Did you see this instruction in Help and Support? Not sure if it might help
you:
a.. Only the recommended screen resolutions are listed. For additional
settings, click the Advanced button on the Settings tab, click the Adapter
tab, and then click List all Modes. Select the resolution, color level, and
refresh rate you want.

Which other programs did you uninstall, is the question? Reinstall your
display drivers and good luck!
