error code 0x80090006

after a crash on my notebook i now get this msg at the
windows xp welcome screen

a problem is preventing windows from accurately checking
the license for this computer. error code:0x80090006

doing F8 on boot-up will only let me use 'directory
services restore mode'. 'last known good config' doesn't
work.

any help is greatly appreciated

If you can boot to the Safe Mode Command Line, try this: "How to Start
