View Full Version : USB2.0 Upgrade

Hello,
I'm using XP Home that came on my Toshiba Satellite 2400-
S202.
I have just purchased the Sony DVD external drive (USB).
When plugging it in, I get this reading when it is
detected by the system:
" HI-SPEED USB DEVICE Plugged into non HI-SPEED USB Hub."
The recommendation states that I should install a HI-
SPEED USB host controller.
So, I downloaded and installed the XP Service Pack 1a,
understanding that the USB 2.0 upgrade is a component
therein.
But in your instructions for upgrading to EHCI, step 3 is
not available to me in the Device Manager ("3. Right-
click the USB 2.0 EHCI Host controller, and then click
Update Driver"). This EHCI Host controller is not listed.
To confirm that SP1a was installed on my computer, I did
locate the four files pertaining to USB 2.0 upgrade.
How do I activate the EHCI Host controller, or get it in
the list in the Device Manager so that I can right-click
on it to upgrade? Please help.

Service pack 1 (and 1a) contains *support* for USB 2. If you want to use
USB2 you'll need to unstall a physical USB2 hub if your motherboard doesn't
have any USB2 ports. Shop around and you should be able to find a PCI card
with two or more USB2 ports.

I believe the PC is a laptop. therefore no PCI card will work. I am not sure
whether or not there is a PCMCIA to USB 2.0 adapter. If there is not then NO
DVD on the laptop at usb 2.0 speeds.
