It's fixed - finally!!!!!

Well, I just wanted to send a note of thanks to all who helped me with my
XP-Pro issue. I was crashing left and right and getting the dreaded BSOD
from IRQ conflicts and some other BUGCODE things going on with my USB
device.

I originally thought it was tied in with Zone Alarm, but it wasn't. I tried
everything you all suggested. All my device drivers were up to date, all
the Windows updates were done, I ran memtest86 (great program, BTW), no
spyware was found, no virus infections were found. My final thought was to
remove all my USB devices and see if that worked. I bought an ethernet
cable and disconnected my Linksys cable modem from USB and connected it to
my ethernet card. It's been 90 minutes now since a crash but I am
optimistic! I tried all the things that crashed my system previously. My
Trillian is now working (that was a Yahoo patch problem though), my AV is
working, my fire wall software is working........yadda, yadda, yadda.

I know I ended up finding this myself through a system of elimination, but I
learned tons of stuff from you folks that was priceless and eventually led
me to my solution! Thanks so much for helping me learn how to deal with XP
without throwing things at my husband! You folks are the best!!!!

So to all those with XP issues, keep at it, it really does work and these
newsgroups are the best source of support and help!

I hate to burst your bubble on memtest86 but it isn't as great as you think.
Yes it will find bad bits in memory and it may find bits that lock up
intermittently but it will not find timing issues with memory. The only test
that will find them is the operating system. This has always been true of
memory tests in the 40 years I have been servicing computers. I have a 512
meg pc2700 chip that ran memtest86 for 48 hours clean. As soon as I start
any memory intensive program it will fail. This is anything as simple as a
disk scan. So don't rely on the fact that memtest runs that your memory is
clean. The only way to tell for sure is to swap it out.....

Maybe you can recommend a good registry cleaner? I was told not to use
Regclean with WinXP. TIA

I like the Registry cleaner with EasyCleaner. Has some other features
also. If you end up using this READ the instructions. I rendered Help
helpless because I did not read all the instructions Easy fix, though.

I addressed that problem in my previous post. If we are going to talk
about program problems, don't get me started on XP. Read the instructions.
There is no other single piece of advice as important with anything. It is
rule #1. EasyCleaner also creates Undo files, so if do remove something you
shouldn't, you can put it back.

"There is a known problem in Windows ME & XP, that is when the registry
scan is run and all the items are deleted, Windows help system doesn't work
anymore. The workaround to this problem is just to ADD the word help to the
skip-list. Even if you DO delete some important info, there is certainly NO
NEED TO RE-install Windows. BECAUSE EasyCleaner always creates backups (with
default options) which can be restored easily. I also offer a fix file with
these 4 entries listed ready to be imported back to the registry, see the
download center. See help for more information!"

I like the program, so I guess I am sticking up for it. :-)

Well thats the first time I have heard or read anything like your
quote. Reads as if your modules were not seated properly.
