Why won't operating system let me format CD in my Iomega
CD R/W drive, and address drive letter directly from
Quicken for backup-writes?

Because XP cd burning abilities do not extend that far.. you need to install
a 'packet writing' program.. Nero's InCD could be a candidate..

Try the newsgroup x.x.financial.quicken. This is a
Quicken thing.

It may involve Quicken, but has more to do with writing files to cd's than
finances..

Will refrain commentary about Iomega. You need software and cooperating
CDRW to accomodate your needs. The CD must be a re-writable type. You must
use UDF format on the re-writable to write directly to the CD from an
application. Whether or not its Quicken or any other application is of no
consequence.

In my case, I use Ahead Software's INCD for UDF. Check www.ahead.de or
www.nero.com for details. While there, look into Nero burning software in
which INCD is free. Don't confuse the free read-only version of INCD at the
site, you can't write with it. Not sure if this will work with Iomega
products.

If you want to use XP's Backup utility you can use one of the work-arounds

That's third party software..... you need to check with the relevant
manufacturer as to whether it's compatible with XP with or without updates.
