Blue screen trying to install third part software

When I get the blue screen, I can only discern the name of
the driver that is causing the problem and something about
hardware, but how do I proceed from here to know what
could be causing. I have windows XP professional and a
new Compaq pc. At first after the blues screen, the
system would reboot and then I could use XP as normal.
But this last time, it keeps coming back with the blue
screen and I finally had to just shut off the machine. I
have no additional hardware installed so the machine is
just like I received it a week ago.
