Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the boxes the text is in under the
icons on the desktop, I've done it before but for the life of me I can't
remember where to go or what to tick.

TIA

Control Panel>Display>Appearance tab>Effects... button. Unmark "Show
shadows under menus."

Thanks Malvern but I've already tried that but to no avail, as
I said I've done it before, something to do with making it transparent I
think. It's starting to annoy me now and i'm wondering if I've got gremlins
in my PC?

System Properties> Performance> Settings> Visual Effects: check box next to
"use drop shadows for icon labels."

Also, right click the desktop > left click Arrange Icons By... and uncheck
Lock Web Items on Desktop.

Unfortunately that didn't work Sharon, I must need to repair or get rid of
something I think.
It's funny though 'cause for example if I go to display properties Desktop
tab and leave the desktop picture I have on the screen then change the
colour within the drop down menu, or as they say Color, then that changes
the colour of the icons text boxes.
Ah well If anybody else has had a similiar problem or knows a fix then I'd
be greatfull for your advice.

TIA
Yours

A few other things you can check: Theme Service is enabled; classic shell
is not forced (a setting in gpedit.msc, XP Pro only).
