Anti-Spyware Tools Reviewed
If you use a PC, chances are it's brimming with spyware. The more benign
versions just watch and report on your Internet habits, while the nasty ones
can actually record everything you do-and send that info to a criminal. But
now a new breed of software protects you from spyware, similar to how
anti-virus programs protect us from worms and viruses. But not all programs
are created equal. We put 14 anti-spyware programs to the PC Magazine Labs'
test and found ourselves a winner. You can't afford not to use at least one
of these programs. Even better, our editor's choice program is now available
for a free download. OK, so you don't get the most current version or a
subscription to the latest nastybot updates. But it's still a good test to
see if your system is compromised. We've also compiled a list of 11 warning
signs that spyware has been installed on your PC.
