when i reboot xp home and login normaly the add hardware wizard pops up saying its found a new printer. no matter what i do it always pops up with it.. i have to cancel it beings there is no printer but it always shows back up when i reboot. if i go thru t
he wizzard and install a printer it says that there was a problem installing the printer. any help would e greatly appreciated

There's that word "wizard" again. If you have the cd or floppy for your
printer you should uninstall the printer in add/remove programs then after
rebooting install it again but this time put the cd or floppy that came with
your printer in and let it auto start the install process. Make sure the
printer is turned off before you start. The install program should tell you
when to turn it on. Even though I have and HP computer and an HP printer the
install new hardware "wizard" could not handle installing the correct
printer drivers even though they say they are 'built in'. Yeah right, I
ended up with 4 of the same model printers installed on my computer. What a
joke. I only cured it by using the CD that came with the printer (HP 5550).

Go into the BIOS and change the LPT port settings to EPP.
