You need a true word processor like Word or Wordperfect in order to
have the spell check option. There is no spell check option in
Wordpad or notepad.

WordPad has no built in spellchecking capability. As others have mentioned
Outlook Express borrows the spellchecker from other Microsoft Office
programs like MS Word, FrontPage or Publisher. If your previous install of
Windows Me came with an Microsoft Office program then try reinstalling it an
see if that fixes the problem. If You don't have one of those programs then
this freeware spellchecker will work nicely with Outlook Express
http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2952&cat=10 Once you install it
open Outlook Express and go to Tools->Options->Spelling Tab and check the
box that enables spellchecking.
Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/ , as someone else mentioned, is a
nice alternative to Microsoft Office apps but it's spellchecker will not
integrate into Outlook Express.

I answered this question seconds ago. Do not post the same
question twice, especially just a few minutes apart.

Why is this such a large problem?
I have "Word" and spell check does not work in Outlook as well.
Why is everyone forgetting the "Caps.dll" file that is missing in the XP
install.
That is what allows me to "activate" the spell checker button in Outlook.
Seems odd that people have to jump all over even when they have the required
apps to supply the tools..........

Sorry, the file is Csapi3tl.dll that is usually missing in the proof folder
..
c\programs\common files\MS shared\proof folder
This is where the Csapi3tl.dll file should be to use the spell check with
word installed on XP...............
