Computer restarts and error messages

Please can you help me, I'm running Windows XP Pro and
sometimes when I switch PC on it will restart itself
several times before loading into desktop.

Also I keep getting a lot of "your system has recovered
from a serious error" messages?

Sometimes it's when I try and explore file and folder in
Windows Explorer sometimes it's when I try to run
Scandisk in AVG Anti-Virus.

Any suggestions on what to do - maybe a complete re-
install would help?

If I were you, I'd just boot to the Windows XP CD and do a repair
installation. You might be able to fix the problem by running something like
Norton WinDoctor also. If neither of those worked, if the computer is fairly
new, I'd take it back or call tech support for the machine. These errors are
hard to figure out...
