We have 3 individuals who use the same computer, one of
whom is visually impaired and requires a lower resolution
the the other 2. We have Windowsxp home edition and
cannot personalize our settings which is driving us
crazy. Is there something we can do to save our sanity
and our eyesight? Supposedly the resoulution must stay
the same for the whole computer. With Windows98 you could
differentiate and separate each person's perferences. Any
help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

aprilmom ... as you've discovered, display resolution in XP is a system
wide setting. However, there are some third-party programs (free) which
will do what you want. You might take a look at this one to start:
http://download.com.com/3000-2347-10112478.html

Here's the description:
"This applet allows each separate user of a Windows XP computer to have
her/his separate settings for the display resolution, color depth, and
refresh rate. When Fast User Switching is used, the display settings
change automatically when switching among users. This brings to XP a
feature that was much relied upon in home environments running Windows
9x/ME."

I can't vouch for it since I don't use it, but it was recommended in a
previous posting in response to someone with a similar situation.

Hi,

Windows XP cannot save different resolutions for each individual:

Display Resolution and Color Depth Settings Apply to All Users
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281565

However a small utility by MVP Doug Knox can help you out. Download and
install it and it can save different resolutions for each user.
