A week ago I installed XP-Pro upgrade,(was running win 98
SE) since then I get no audio from my computer. I have
checked all the connections, ran all the tests. It shows
that I am getting output on both the audio meters and and
microphone meters, but no sound. Also Since the upgrade
I am getting messages to upgrade my dvd player software,
so whats up with that? (Of course for an extra cost that
Microsoft did not tell me about)Am I correct in assuming
that because I have upgraded to XP-Pro that the new
software has rendered my dvd and audio in-operable?
Please Advise! Thank You!

You have checked the sound card and updated the drivers I presume?
Did you run the Upgrade Advisor before actually installing XP?

Yes I ran the upgrade report... but I have to admit this
i an area where my computer knowledge is weak! The report
indicated that among many other things ( too many to
list) 1) DVD Movie Player or decoder may be incompatible,
2)Creative Labs Soundblaster Accessories - as
incompatible hardware accessories. 3) Phone tools is
incompatible - to contact BVRP software? That's what I
can tell you, as far as upgrading the drivers, I am not
familiar with upgrading drivers on-line! Thanks!

You need to go to your hardware supplier's web site and under Downloads
(probably somewhere under Support) , and download the drivers for your
particular item for Windows XP. Look for instructions on how to install
them. (Sometimes in a Readme file after you have extracted the files)

Well... the upgrade advisor is telling you the DVD player program is not
compatible yet you think MS didn't tell you? Yes they did!! Compatibility
of older apps with newer OS's is the responsibility of the application
publisher and not MS, you will need an XP compatible version...
As for the audio, yes you will need to update your drivers. You can either
go to creative's website, access the support section and download the XP
drivers for your soundcard, or try running Windows Update... Also, have you
actually checked that your speakers are plugged in correctly (to the correct
port) and that the volume is not muted in the control panel?

Yo Jeff
I had a similar kind of problem to you.. I had four truck wheels fitted with
snow tires for my Chevy S10 sitting in my garage ready to be fitted for the
winter.. how about this.. I sold my S10 and purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee
only to find that the wheels don't fit!!!.. what kind of stunt are Jeep
pulling here?.. There is no mention in the Jeep drivers manual that states
'S10 wheels will not fit this vehicle'.. OOPS.. I forgot that the MS XP
upgrade advisor did tell you that some stuff would be incompatible.. maybe
the experience is not so similar after all.. oh well..
