I had a hard time figuring this one out and I think it is a bug in Windows/XP. I have a memory stick that I put in my USB port and it loaded the correct drivers and properties showed that it was functioning properly, but when I looked in My Computer there
was no new drive letter assigned to the drive. This worked fine in my laptop but not on my desktop. It turns out that it was being assigned to a letter (in this case F:) already assigned to a mapped network drive. When I clciked on the network drive it
showed me the memory stick files. I went into My Computer/Manage/Disk Management and reassigned the letter to one that would not conflict with existing mapped network drives and it then started showing up in My Computer as well as my mapped network drive
s! Weird, but maybe it will help someone else coming across the same problem.
