Having problems with TDK DVD/CD burner. After booting into XP, it shows up
as a CD drive in My Computer. Properties indicate the writing tab there,
and writing is enabled. Short, small MB burns to DVD are no problem.
When I burn large 1 or 2 GB sized files with a aftermaket backup program,
some two hours later shows a problem writing to the DVD/CD burner. I have a
blank 4.7GB DVD in place. Apparently, this backup program is relying on
XP's native UDF format writing ability.
After this problem occurs, I noticed in the DVD/CD burner's properties, a
DVD R/W is now noted. But, the writing tab is gone entirely.
Sometimes, upon reboot, same DVD/CD burner may show up as a DVD ROM in My
Computer. This too has the writing tab available and writing is enabled.
This too craps out, and produces same symptoms noted above.
This PC is a dual boot. Runs Win98SE as well. The DVD/CD burner has no
such problems in that OS. Using NERO 5.5.10 for burning there. UDF format
works correctly as well using INCD. This clues me in that its not a
hardware or firmware problem in XP.
I've checked the results of the written DVD with NeroExpress in XP. Its got
one session on it written in UDF format with zero bytes of data.
Am clueless at this point.
