Lost in my computer
December 6th 03, 04:08 PM
I recently received a new computer with Windows XP
already installed. I would like to create letters and
resumes. I previously had Windows 98 on my old computer.
It had Excel, Access and Word on it. Please let me know
if I have to purchase these programs or not.
Thanks

You do. No windows OS has EVER come with these applications. Some vendors
bundle them with new machines.

These applications are NOT and never were part of Windows (either XP or 98).
Some OEMs ship an application suite with their retail computers, and some
don't. So you may have suitable applications already on your new computer.
If you need these particular applications, and your new system did not
come with them, you will have to separately purchase MS Office XP to get
them. It is a rather expensive package for most home users.
You may want to investigate less expensive alternatives such as MS Works
Suite or third party applications that could meet your needs at less cost to
you.
