Windows Default Size

Is there a way to set the default size so that when I
open any application or window it starts out as maximized?

Drag the window corners to screen corners. Close holding down ctrl and
Shift keys at the same time you click on the X to close. Believe same key
combination while clicking on Close in menu brought down by icon in
upper-left corner (title bar) does same.
