What are these files? I was stupid enough to delete them
via a "Virus Alert" !!

1) What are the files?
2) Can I live without them?
3) What is the most simplistic route to reinstall?

Thank You ...

Brian

You were the victim of a virus hoax. Make it a rule of thumb never to
delete any files because you've received an email warning. Nor, should you
apply any security updates that you receive by email. I believe the file
that you were told to delete was jdbgmgr.exe. The Microsoft Debugger
Registrar for Java (Jdbgmgr.exe) is only used by Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1
developers. If you follow the e-mail message instructions and delete this
file, you do not have to recover it unless you use Microsoft Visual J++ 1.1
to develop Java programs on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 98 Second
Edition, Windows 98, or Windows 95.

Java debugging. You don't need it for normal operation, but if you want
to you can restore it from the Windows CD.

Jdbgmgr.exe? Fortunately, as hoaxes go, the effect of this one is
very mild. Yes, it was a Windows file and no, it shouldn't have
been deleted. But the file is the Java debug manager, needed only
by Java programmers. Since you're obviously not a Java programmer
(if you were, you would have known not to delete it), there's no
real harm been done. You don't need the file, and although it's
easy enough to get back, you don't need to bother.

Next time, don't be ready to believe E-mail messages about
viruses, even if sent by your closest friends. Most of them are
hoaxes, spread by unwitting dupes of the hoaxsters.
