View Full Version : Save VIEW Settings . . . on exit?

In the left pane I want: FOLDERS, and in the right pane: DETAILS.

In Folder Options/View: ****Apply to ALL FOLDERS****.

This does NOT work! I am CONSTANTLY clicking on "FOLDERS" - I want the same
view I had in W95 and W98SE .

- Help & Support Center (alleged) - input: 'save view settings on exit';
RESULT: Using Netsh, which would make me feel like I am working in DOS;
which I do NOT understand. There were also FIFTEEN (15) Microsoft Knowledge
Base articles which are NOT REVELANT.

IS there a non-DOS SOLUTION to my situation or do I need to format the hard
drive back to FAT32 and put W98SE back on?

Thanks.

Hi Larry,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. This is why it always defaults to some other view
after you close and reopen it. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase
this number:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

You can also resolve this with the newest version of TweakUI. Get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, look under explorer/customization, increase the "folders
to remember".

Hello Larry,

If part of the problem is that you do not automatically
get the "Folder" bar, I suggest that you create/modify
a shortcut so that the "Target:" points to

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,C:\path-to-folder-of-choice
