I am new at this newsgroup program so please understand if
I am slow, O.K.
My problem started when I saw a small icon on the bottom
right side of my tsak bar (at least I think thats what you
call the bar that runs across the bottom of our screens).
When I right clicked the icon a note appeared above it
which read there were important windows updates that neede
to be updated. So I left clicked the icon and a note
appeared on my screen saying the updates were being
download into my computer. Only problem they would not
complete the download, but instead locked my computer and
I was unable to do anything even shut it down. I had to
puch the button that you push when you start the computer.
I tried this 3 times and 3 out of the 4 failed to
download. Only 1 was successful on the third try, it's
number is KB824141. The 3 that failed are KB828035,
KB825119 and KB823182. These downloads must be important
but I don't know where they are nor where to download them
if/when I find them?
As important as the updates are to the continuied safe
operation of MSN I can't believe MSN has NO avenue which a
user can contact MSN support and get help to help their
program continue to run!!!
Has anyone had this problem that could help me? Or is
there someway I can communicate with a MSN executive by
email because I would have NO problem telling them that
service after the sale is their future!!! Thx, Bob

I don't know why you are getting this behaviour but you can download the
updates manually by going to the Windows Update page (Tools-Windows Update
in IE) and then selecting Windows Update Catalog under See Also in the left
pane. If the WUC link is not visible choose Personalize Windows Update under
Other Options and enable it. Once in the WUC page you can follow the
instructions to get the updates you want. Note you can only download to an
existing folder and keep the path as short as possible as a long series of
directories are automatically created to keep the updates sorted by numerous
categegories. (OS-Language-software/hardware etc.)
Hope this helps

Hi Bob
Have look in the Windows Update.log file - which can be found in the =
Windows folders - for any error numbers - towards the end of the file. =
If any are found, see if they are referenced here:

Hi Will,
Thanks for your response. I found many, many updates that
I probably should download to protect my computer. I have
Microsoft Updates to do their thing automatically which
they do most of the time.
Now that I have found these needed updates and I put the 3
in my download basket and I click to download them. Only
problem it says Type or browse to the download location of
your choice!! I have browsed and elected every site that
appears in the little box of choices and it will not
download!! Will you please tell me "What Location" to put
in that long skinny box that will download these updates
when I click the download btton?
I appreciate your help,
Bob Young

Hi Bob
You can download the files to any location you want. Try creating a new =
folder specially for the downloads, then navigate to that folder to =
download the files from 'Browse'. You will find, however that after =
downloading, the actual files to install are a few folders deeper down. =
You will see something like =
Name_Of_New_Folder>Software>En>com_microsoft.windowsxp>x86Winxp>(number =
of update)>(.EXE file to install) - depending on which files are to be =
downloaded.
