I have a home network with two computers. I am retiring
computer B today. It will now function as a door stop. I
have a blazing fast brand new system that I have assembled
this will be reffered to as system A. I want to take the
Windows off XP B and put in on A. I know how to uninstall
XP. However when I reinstall it on computer A will
microsoft know, and allow me to use the same registration
number? I dont want to shell out another $100 bucks for a
new XP.

Hi Jason,
If it's a retail version of WinXP, then you will be allowed to install and
activate it on the new system. If the old installation (computer "B") is
more than 120 days old, then you will likely activate automatically right
over the 'net. If it is not, then you will probably need to phone it in.
If it was an OEM or preinstalled version, you will need to shell out another
$100, as they are usually tied to the first system that they are installed
to and are not transferable.

Greetings --
Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
