The windows compression program has disappeared from my Send To menu.
Where is it installed so that I can put it back ?

To folder.

Do you mean built-in Windows compression? Try to use command:
"regsvr32 zipfldr.dll"

Create new empty file (e.g. textfile) then rename it to
"Message recipient.MAPIMail"
