View Full Version : Boot error

The last few times I rebooted XP Home, I got the message "One of the files
of the system registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate
copy. The recovery was successful." The system seems to be operating fine,
but I get the message every time I boot. Any ideas why?

Go to Recovery Console and type:
cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit

If this only happens on one user account, there is probably some corruption
in the registry hive for this user account. Try logging on with a different
account to see if the same thing occurs.
If this happens with every account, there may be more extensive damage to
the registry. If possible, restore the system to a time that predates this
message.
