I am using a program called Drive Image 7.0 to backup my C drive
containing my operating system and all my programs. I want this backup
in case of a disaster so that I can restore it without having to
format and re install all my programs.

I would like to know froms someone who knows this program how I get to
the backup file if I cannot boot into windows because of the disaster.

I am backing up to a slave drive which is in a drawer and usually out
of the computer.

You need to boot from the Drive Image CD. Part of the installation was
a check to be sure your computer could boot from the CD; you may need to
alter the boot sequence in the BIOS to allow it.

If prior to the restoration attempt, XP boots properly, and DI 7.0 works;
you should be able to restore from the XP environment. Otherwise, you have
to use the CD that DI 7.0 came on. This is a boot CD and the restore
program opens automatically. You were supposed to check the operability of
this by default during the initial installation. The purpose of the boot CD
operability was explained during the installation. There is the normal help
menu in DI 7.0, and there are a few extensive adobe acrobat files for
further in depth help. There is an link to PowerQuest in the help section
as well.

A typical hard drive is mounted in a tray, and is deemed removable.
