i'd just bought a new laptop with winXP home ed
preinstalled, that works fine. Then i went to Windows
update site to update all security packages and service
pack (sp1). Now svchost.exe (LOCAL SERVICE) process is
constantly increasing its memory usage, even though no
application was running at the time.

The problems here are:
#this process is taking up the cpu usage time.
#reduce my available physical memory and system cache
#programs slowed down, sometime clashed, after maybe 2
hours.

my temporary fix is:
everytime i boot up i open up task manager and 'end
process' or sometime 'end process tree'.

ps.I also have the same problems for WinXP pro on my PC.

PLEASE HELP

You might have a worm, I just picked up XP-pro a week ago and updated
all the hot fixes, then DLLHOST started uploading constantly.
Go over to http://security.symantec.com/
and run the free virus security scan
