Tommy you didn't get the repair option. What you more than likely got was
the Recovery Console. The recovery console gives you dos like commands. This
isn't what you want. The repair feature actually reinstalls all files.
Insert your XP CD and let the setup run again. Now you need to read the
screens carefully, but the Welcome to Setup screen first asks if you want to
install xp press Enter or if you want to repair press R. Just press Enter.
Do not press R. If you press R now you will simply end up at the recovery
console again. Pressing Enter starts the Windows setup program. Next accept
the licence agreement. Windows will now search for any existing windows
installations. When it find the installation it will be listed on your
screen. Select your installation from the list and then press R this will
then start the repair process.

Tommy I can't see what has happened. Even the black and then grey screen is
a puzzle. Now I can humour you. That isn't a problem but I need some work
from you. What I need you to do is start everything all over again only this
time I want you to make a note of everything that you do, including what
appears on the screen. Normally there should be no problem, but you are
obviously having major problems. The sequence of events is straight forward
enough. Rather than fill the newsgroup with a massive post containing all
what you have done perhaps it would be better if you email me direct at
(take out the NOSPAM). I'll go through your email
and then see if we can't get you up and running again.
