For about the last 4 weeks I have been getting regular error messages
when using my PC. These include the usual 'programme has encountered
a problem and needs to close' (can happen in any programme that I'm
using but most commonly Internet Explorer) and 'running low on virtual
memory, increasing the size of paging file' (despite the message the
machine doesn't seem to do this). Also, when trying to save a page in
my web software programme the other day a message - 'write error'
appeared. These all seem to be crazy messages and quite often I can
continue using the programme as long as I don't close the error
message box down. Sometimes, however, the programme is closed down.

There is plenty of memory left on my PC (almost 40GB). There are also
no viruses on my machine. I have Norton anti-virus running the whole
time with 'live update' and also a firewall installed.

Help, I have an awful feeling that Windows XP may be becoming unstable
as the error messages are getting more frequent. I really don't want
to go for a reinstall. Any idea what I can do? Any idea why I am
getting this problem?
