Does anyone know of a workaround for an HP Scanjet 4C
with XP Pro? I've tried the HP workaround and all it does
is lock up my computer so bad that I have to use the
power off button to reboot!

SCSI?
Found this
I have used the Scanjet 4c with Windows 2000 and now use it with Windows XP. I
bought an Adaptec 2906 SCSI PCI card at CompUSA. I believe is was $65. Works
perfectly. No drivers needed. Simply buy the card, install the card then boot
Windows and use the card.

I don't know about the HP workaround you are referring to.
My HP Scanjet 4C is connected to an Adaptec AHA-2940AU PCI SCSI
controller and works perfectly in Windows XP Home.
At the time I downloaded from HP and installed SJ166EN.EXE.
I use the HP Deskscan and the HP Scanjet Copy Utility, those work also
perfectly.
